2005 Merlot
(SKU: MBOK05MER Category: Red Wines)
(SKU: MBOK05MER Category: Red Wines)
The sun bathes the hot Osoyoos bench, south and west of Osoyoos, full through to the first frosts in November. There, Pete Stajuhar farms 10 acres of winegrapes, including this Merlot for Morning Bay. We aged this wine in used French barriques for two years to darken fruit flavours and soften tannins. This rich red wine opens with ripe plums and cassis and moves through to a smooth coffee and cocoa finish.

2007 Pinot Blanc
(SKU: MBOK07PBL Category: White Wines)
(SKU: MBOK07PBL Category: White Wines)
This pinot blanc comes to us from Stoneboat Vineyards in the southern Okanagan Valley. Lanny Martiniuk has been growning grapes for Morning Bay since 2002, and the 2007 season featured the Okanagan’s signature long Indian summer with warm days and cool nights to develop rich flavours and crisp acidity. This fresh white wine features lovely tree-fruit characteristics with Morning Bay’s classic dry finish. Enjoy with poultry, seafood or ripe cheeses. 220 cases made. Morning Bay’s dramatic terraced vineyard climbs 200 feet up the rocky sough flank of Mount Menzies on North Pender Island off BC’s rugged west coast. Morning Bay’s unique gravity flow winery uses natural processes to extract the finest flavours from its wines. With hand-tended grapes from our own 7-acre estate vineyard and grapes from some of BC’s best vineyards, Morning Bay makes wines that bear the stamp of hand craftsmanship.
2007 Pinot Gris
(SKU: MBOK07PGR Category: White Wines)
(SKU: MBOK07PGR Category: White Wines)
Lanny Martiniuk’s Stoneboat Vineyard on the Black Sage Bench has been the source of Morning Bay’s Pinot Gris since 2004. The long, cool Indian summer of 2007 riped rich tree- and stone-fruit flavours, but protected crisp acidity. Look for pear, peach and apricot with a delightful minerality on the palate. Finished in a dry style, this fresh wine pairs with ripe cheese, poultry or seafood.
2004 Cabernet Sauvignon (Special)
(SKU: MBOK04CSA Category: Red Wines)
(SKU: MBOK04CSA Category: Red Wines)
|
Lanny Martinium's Stone Boat Vineyard on the Black Sage Bench has produced some of the Okanagan Valley's best red winegrapes since it was first planted in 1992. Morning Bay has been the recipient of some of that fruit, including this Cabernet Sauvignon, which Morning Bay has purchased since 2002.
The 2004 vintage was warm and a long Indian summer ripened rich berry flavours while preserving critical acidity. We aged the wine for three years in used French barriques, concentrating fruit flavours and adding darker, earthier layers. Bottle finished for six months before release, this wine is a fine ex |
2004 Syrah
(SKU: MBOK04SYR Category: Red Wines)
(SKU: MBOK04SYR Category: Red Wines)
A richly layered syrah in the European style, this fruit comes from two growers on the Black Sage Bench, Canada's premier winegrape-growing area. Three years barrel aging in used French barriques softened rich berry flavours and enhanced a smooth peppery finish. Enjoy this wine with rich game meats and red wine reduction sauces.
2005 Reserve Merlot
(SKU: MBPI05MER Category: Red Wines)
(SKU: MBPI05MER Category: Red Wines)
Sam Baptiste grows some of the finest winegrapes in Canada at Inkameep Vineyards which he manages for the Osoyoos Indian Band. This Merlot, grown exclusively for Morning Bay since 2002, comes from Z-Block, a tiny knoll at the back of the vineyard. The 2005 summer provided ample heat for ripening but cool fall evenings preserved crisp acidity. We aged this award winning wine two years in our concrete “cave” at our winery on Pender Island in used French barriques. This concentrated the bright plum flavours and deepened darker layers of chocolate and licorice. This wine won a bronze medal at the 2008 Finger Lakes International Wine Competition. Enjoy this rich red wine with steak or roast beef.
2006 Estate Pinot Noir
(SKU: MBPI06PNO Category: Red Wines)
(SKU: MBPI06PNO Category: Red Wines)
Our first-ever and only release of Pinot Noir from our Mount Menzies terraced vineyard. Clones 114 and 115 on their own roots, began their life as cuttings in Lanny Martiniuk's nursery at Stone Boat Vineyards on the Black Sage Bench. They were planted on seven steep terraces on the rocky south flank of Mount Menzies on North Pender Island in the fall of 2002. The first commercial crop in 2006 turned out to be a vintage for the ages, with warm, cloudless skies dominating the weather from April until September. The berry bunches were hand-selected in the vineyard. Morning Bay made just four barrels of our 2006 Pinot Noir as a red wine. This wine exhibits classic Burgundian character, with judicious alcohol levels (around 11%), silky, supple mouth-feel and crisp, food-friendly acidity.
2006 Pinot Noir
(SKU: MBOK06PNO Category: Red Wines)
(SKU: MBOK06PNO Category: Red Wines)
This Pinot Noir was grown by Bruno Peron on a sandy bench west of Penticton. Small lot Pinot Noir clones 114 and 115 on own-rooted vines about seven years old. Hand-picked under our consultant's supervision, these grapes were processed at nearby Adora Estate Winery in Summerland, put through primary fermentation, then pressed directly into used oak barrels from the Opus One red wine program in Napa, California. They were then shipped to our winery on Pender Island, where they stayed two years in oak barrel, rested two months in stainless steel, then were bottled on May 24, 2009. The wine exhibits classic Burgundian character, with judicious alcohol levels (around 11%), silky, supple mouth-feel and crisp, food-friendly acidity.
2007 Estate Bianco
(SKU: MBPI07BIA Category: White Wines)
(SKU: MBPI07BIA Category: White Wines)
Our second release from our own estate vineyard on Pender Island. “Bianco” is our house white, a patio sipper that is thirst-quenching and palate-cleaning. A blend of four aromatic white winegrapes—Gewurztraminer, Pinot Gris, Riesling and Schonberger— this wine is light, crisp and refreshing. Enjoy with seafood and salads and a hot summer day.
2007 Estate Chiaretto
(SKU: MBPI07CHI Category: White Wines)
(SKU: MBPI07CHI Category: White Wines)
Chiaretto (KEY-ah-RET-toe) in Italian refers to a light, bright rosé. That's just what our chiaretto is—refreshing, crisp and food-friendly. Made dry in the French d'Anjou style, our rosé is a blend of Pinot Noir and Marechal Foch grown in our estate vineyard on Pender Island, with a touch of Pinot Blanc from the Black Sage Bench. Full of berry and apple notes, you can enjoy Chiaretto with fresh fruit salads and ripe cheeses.
2007 Gewurztraminer
(SKU: MBOK07GEW Category: White Wines)
(SKU: MBOK07GEW Category: White Wines)
Bruno Peron farms the gravelly bench west of Penticton. He patrols his tiny 7-acre vineyard with a sharp eye to ripeness and marauding deer. This lovely gewurztraminer reached the peak of ripeness in the long 2007 fall. A bit of chardonnay filled out the rich mid-palate, and a bit of muscat contributed to the flowery aromatics of this wine. Pair with ripe cheeses or with prawns and crab.
